Booking a doctor’s appointment online, explained
Request a consultation on the practice’s booking page; the practice confirms your request afterwards.
Booking for clients
Booking online with a doctor or medical practice means choosing the type of visit, the doctor and an open slot on the practice’s own booking page, without waiting on the phone. Your request stays pending until the practice confirms it, so it helps to know how that works.
Open the practice’s booking link, which it may publish on its website or send you in a message. You’ll see the practice’s name and a list of services, each with a duration and, where the practice has set one, a price. Choose the visit you need, such as a first consultation or a follow-up.
Pick a doctor, or the option “Any available person” if the practice offers it, then choose a date and an open time. The calendar follows each doctor’s own schedule and the practice’s notice rules, so only bookable slots are shown.
Enter your name, an email address if you wish and an optional note. Keep the note short and practical, and don’t write sensitive health details or your medical aid number in it. When you send the request, the time is held for you with the status “pending”.
The practice’s team confirms or rejects the request in their panel, and nothing is sent to you automatically: 4appointments sends clients neither emails nor reminders. The final screen shows a link for cancelling or rescheduling, which isn’t emailed, so save it. A pending request that nobody handles is cancelled by the system about an hour after the requested time, without notice.
Key points
- ✓The booking page is open day and night, but confirmation is done by the practice’s team
- ✓You choose the service, the doctor and the time yourself
- ✓The cancel or reschedule link is shown on the final screen only, so save it
Common questions
Is it possible to book an urgent appointment online?+
That depends on the practice. The page only offers the open times the practice has made available, and a request stays pending until someone confirms it. For anything urgent, phone the practice.
What information does the booking form ask for?+
Your name, an email address if you wish and an optional note. Don’t put sensitive medical details in the note, and ask the practice itself how it handles your information. 4appointments sends no reminders, so note the date and time yourself.
