How do you book an appointment with a doctor online?

Request a consultation on the practice’s booking page whenever suits you; the practice confirms it afterwards.

Booking as a client

Booking with a doctor or clinic online means choosing the type of visit, the doctor and a free time on the practice’s own booking page, without ringing reception. The request you send is pending until the practice confirms it, so it helps to know how that works.

Go to the practice’s booking page, which it may link from its website or give you in a message. You’ll see the practice’s name and a list of services, each with a duration and, if the practice has set one, a price. Choose the kind of visit you need (a first appointment or a review, for example) and a doctor if you have a preference, or the option “Any available person” if the practice offers it.

Free times follow each doctor’s own schedule and the practice’s notice rules, so only bookable slots are shown. Choose the day and hour that suit you, then enter your name, an email address if you wish and an optional note. Keep the note short and practical, and don’t put sensitive health details in it.

Once you send the request, the time is held for you with the status “pending”. The practice’s team confirms or rejects it in their panel. Confirming or rejecting sends you nothing automatically, and 4appointments sends clients no emails or reminders, so expect the practice to confirm by phone or message and ask it how if that isn’t clear.

On the final screen you’ll see a link for changing or cancelling the booking. Save it, because it isn’t emailed to you. If you no longer need the slot, use that link so someone else can have it. A pending request nobody handles is cancelled by the system about an hour after the requested time, without notice.

The essentials

  • ✓The booking page is open day and night, but the practice’s team does the confirming
  • ✓You choose the service, the doctor and the time yourself
  • ✓The cancel or reschedule link is shown on the final screen only, so save it

Common questions

Is it possible to book an urgent visit online?+

That depends on the practice. The page offers only the free times the practice has made available, and a request stays pending until someone confirms it. For anything urgent, ring the surgery.

What does the booking form ask for, and will I be reminded?+

Your name, an email address if you wish and an optional note, so please keep sensitive medical details out of it. 4appointments sends no reminders to clients, so note the date and time yourself and ask the practice whether it contacts patients before visits. For questions about how the practice handles your information, ask the practice itself.
