How to create a booking system for a car service garage

A car service garage with online bookings eliminates walk-in queues, organises lifts and mechanics efficiently and reduces downtime.

You set up the available resources: lifts, hoists, diagnostic bays or individual mechanics. Each resource has its own calendar. The client books with the “garage” (the system automatically assigns a free resource) or directly with a specific lift if you’ve configured that.

You define the work types with each one’s duration: technical inspection (40 min), oil change (30 min), suspension repair (2h), wheel alignment (1h), full diagnostics (1.5h), etc. The correct duration prevents overlaps and underuse.

At booking, the client enters the car’s make, model and registration number. They can add a description of the problem in the notes field — the mechanic knows in advance what to fix and can prepare the parts.

You send automatic reminders a day before and 2h before. Some garages also send an SMS confirmation with the exact address and where to park on arrival.

Managing parts stock is outside the scope of a booking system. You need a separate ERP or inventory system for that.

You can show the estimated price of each work type at booking. The final price may differ if extra work is discovered during inspection.
